Postbariatric Body Contouring / Body Contouring after weight loss

Bariatric surgery can be roughly described as weight loss surgery. For this purpose, the most applied operations are stomach reduction and gastrointestinal interconnection.
After bariatric surgery, the number of which has increased rapidly in recent years, deformities from simple to very complex may occur in the body. Although bariatric surgeries are beneficial for health, excessive regression and related deformities may occur, especially in the subcutaneous fatty tissue, after very serious weight loss.
We, aesthetic plastic surgeons, assist our patients in the correction of deformities.

How soon after stomach reduction surgery can I have body shaping surgery?

After stomach reduction surgery, patients enter a period of rapid weight loss. At this time, sagging occurs on their bodies. However, after a certain period of time (which is about 6 months to 1.5 years), weight loss stops and the body settles into balance. After weight stabilization, we can meet with the patient and proceed to correction surgeries.

What kind of correction surgeries can I have after stomach reduction surgeries?

The most common sagging body areas after stomach reduction surgeries are the abdomen, breast, legs, arms, back and face. One or all of these can be seen at once in our patients. Depending on the weight given, the degrees may also differ. For example, a patient with a height of 160 cm who has lost 50 kg and a patient with a height of 180 cm who has lost 50 kg will not be deformed in the same way. Or, two people with the same body infrastructure can be deformed in the same way at different weights.
Since the adipose tissue is in the whole body, the excess skin and subcutaneous tissue that occurs after weight loss is not only in the abdomen. The arms, legs and even the face area may also sag.

Although the need for surgery varies from person to person, in general, correcting the breast and abdomen first and then correcting the arms and legs are the basic operations. Two surgical groups should be performed in different sessions. The reason for this is the increased operation time and the associated dangers.
In general, arm and leg stretching can be performed 3-6 months after tummy tuck and breast recovery. During this period, the post-operative edema is regressed. It is necessary to wait 3-6 months for procedures such as additional face lift.
There are many different scar options depending on the procedure to be applied. In general, scars remain in the bikini line in abdominal surgery, in the bra line in breast surgery, on the inner parts of the arms and legs. These scars are red in the first year and turn white after about the first year.
Our patients stay in the hospital for about 2 days after tummy tuck and breast correction. Immediately after the operation, the patient stands up at 4 hours and walks in the room on the same day. They can walk on their own the next day. It takes about 10 days for them to return to work. After about a month, sports can be done.
